OPEN LETTER TO DARLA Moderator, Depression Tribe

This post is an open letter to Darla Moderator, Depression Tribe in response to

{Leslee,

I am removing you from the Depression tribe.

This is not the forum for you to run your anti-anti-depressant agenda. I realize that, to you, there are some very real issues regarding psychotropic medications. There are people that without those same medications you decry would be dead. I am one of them.

I do not want to discuss this further. As moderator of the tribe, I have an obligation to act in a manner consistent with protecting those people who chose me to be the moderator. While your message may be important, this is not the appropriate forum in which to discuss it.

Thank you for undertstanding. }

OPEN LETTER TO DARLA

I do not believe that anyone except the drug companies is protected by being prevented from reading the facts. No one was being forced to read anything they did not wish to read. I do not disagree with the fact that many people feel they have been helped by SSRIs. But the truth is many people are dead (some are people who weren’t even on the drugs.)or in prison or mental wards, because of SSRIs and this information is being suppressed by a media that is bought and paid for by the drug industry.

How else can you explain that when a news story such as this one does get on the news, it is shown once and never heard from again.

mms.tveyes.com/playlist.asp

The web site below has more than 1,000 news reports, mainly criminal in nature, that have appeared in the media and yet there is little comment made connecting the dots. How many people will have to die before this becomes an appropriate topic of discussion among the people who are actually using the drugs?

SSRIs are causeing many people grief in many ways.

In this day and age anyone who blindly trusts the pharmaceutical industry is either ill-informed or foolish.

In 1999 a study conducted by Adrian Preda, M.D.; Rebecca W. MacLean, M.D.; Carolyn M. Mazure, Ph.D.; and Malcolm B. Bowers, Jr., M.D. found that 8.1% of Psychiatric Admissions to hospitals were due to Antidepressant-Associated Mania and Psychosis (J Clin Psychiatry 2001;62:30-33). The number must be higher now because the numbers of people taking antidepressants has risen significantly.

Drug makers are allowed to hide many drug studies from the FDA, the doctors and the public, showing only the studies they choose to show. Drug companies have repeatedly been caught hiding data, using false advertising and many other underhanded methods to sell drugs. And yet when they are caught they receive a slap on the wrist, (relative to profits.) On top of all that, drug makers have attempted to harass and discredit some of the doctors who have publicly stood up to them.

The FDA receives and is now dependent on major funding (User Fees) from drug manufacturers. Many FDA members have deep pocket connections to the pharmaceutical companies. Members who are honest have been forced to be whistle blowers in order to get information out about dangerous drugs! It seems that it is only after information becomes public that the FDA acts to protect the public.

Prescription drugs are now one of the nation's leading killers!
source: Consumer Reports. The number of people needlessly hurt or killed by prescription drugs has become staggering. A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that in one year, over two million patients suffered serious drug reactions, resulting in 106,000 deaths. Another article in JAMA estimated that only 1 in 20 reactions are reported.

The Product Information Leaflet (PIL) for venlafaxine (Effexor) now recognises aggression and homicidal ideation (At times leading to violence) as a side effect of effexor.

In a series of historic warnings in 2004, the FDA has asserted that "adult and pediatric patients" on antidepressants can develop an array of side effects, including "anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, impulsivity, akathisia (severe restlessness), hypomania, and mania" that may make them suicidal "when the dose either increases or decreases," that is whenever the dose changes.
Reference: "The Antidepressant Solution" by Joseph Glenmullen, M.D.
78% of Effexor users will experience withdrawal. Because of a half life of 5 hr.s withdrawal can start after one missed dose. This can be dangerous when people are in circumstances where they can not get the medication such as emergency situations.

Drug makers claim that antidepressants are not “habit forming” but fail to mention that all antidepressants can cause withdrawal. People often do not realize that withdrawal is causing their symptoms.
Gradual dose reduction (also know as tapering) will alleviate symptoms for most people. (For many people the reduction in dose needs to be in miniscule amounts requiring the painstaking cutting and measuring of medication.) And yet many doctors do not know the proper methods for withdrawal and fail to fully warn patients.

SSRIs are not the only method or possibly even the best method for treating depression. People have a right to the facts. You protect no one by choosing to be a part of the repression of factual information!

PLEASE protect your self and others, get educated about the dangers posed by antidepressants and other legal drugs. A great place to start is "Money Talks" I can not rave about this film enough. I wish every one would see it. Watch a clip from the Educational Documentary "Money Talks" by the maker of "Side Effects"

Leslee - What the heck does this have to do with the xd38 nexus personality?

What she did is not censorship; you are still able to provide your propaganda on your tribe home page. Tribes are not a place for propaganda, they are a place for people to network and support each other.

For posting your drivel here, I fart in your general direction.

nothing to do with xd38 nexus personality

but the problems with the FDA and pharmaceutical companies are staggering. and by no means limited to anti-depressants. this is by no means tryin gto say that drugs dont save many lives, but when industry is funding its own safety testing and regulation only the bottom line counts: $$$$$$$$ - not human life.

i did a sociology paper several years ago and was horified:
      - drug after drug being taken off the market - not by the FDA - but but by court order in class action suits after numerous deaths... when it turned out that people had died for the same reasons (not related to the problem the drug was treating) during the safety testing!
      - the FDA firing it's chief biostatistician for testing an anti-flu medication and reporting that it had 0 efficacy above a placebo and had numerous serious related health concerns... they passed it anyway
      - read about the apotex scandal: a researcher having her career destroyed because her results showed that the drug she was testing to treat a life-threatening disease in children was not effective and their lives were in danger - so she spoke up and ended up in years of litigation.
      - drug companies suppressing the warnings and provisos under which a drug is passed by the FDA. ie: Propulsid - a stomach med - was NOT to be proscribed to children because both adults and children had died during the testing of heart failure. doctors were never told this and commonly began to perscribe it to infants with GI reflux (unpleasant but hardly life threatening). over 40 otherwise healthy infants died of heart failure
      - the US military was asked to do a report on the proscription drug situation as an independent observer: incredible, disgusting and horrifying on so many levels.

...it goes on. i agree that this is not the tribe but the ignorant 'scientology' remark caught in my craw. this has nothing to do with the religious fringe and everything to do with the marginalization of pertinent information and the suppression of those who would speak out against an entrenched system... but people dont want to think - so down with propoganda!!
